Introduction

Juven’s mission is to empower the membership ecosystem of organizations and to connect them to create new value. As one of the key impact areas for organizations is event management, Juven has taken up the challenge of providing an end-to-end solution to bring event management- and thereby overall organizational engagement- to the next level.

We believe that facial recognition will become increasingly prevalent and useful for event management. Check out this white paper about the use of facial recognition technology in events by EventsMB.

In this series of article, Juven will shed light on AI-powered facial recognition technology, the current state of its use in the events market, our product and advantages, and our development road map.

Market landscape and players

Eventbrite is one of the largest ticketing platform globally. Eventbrite allows users to discover events based on location or by category. It also allows users to create and sell tickets.

Earlier this year, Eventbrite’s published an article with contribution from a startup called Zenus (see below). Eventbrite has not committed anything related to facial recognition.

Zenus Biometrics is a Houston-based start-up that creates facial-recognition that seems to be software-based. No extra device is needed. When using Zenus’ technology, onsite event technology partners such as Fielddrive can provide the hardware. In the example below, event manager ExpoLogic is the event organizer.

The strength of this approach is that no extra devices are needed for the event. You may be able to run the software off any compatible device. However this means that you will still need a person to facilitate (i.e. clicking to take the photo, so it is not automatic facial recognition), as seen from the video screen-cap below. Another limitation is that only one person can check-in at any one kiosk at any time. They will need to stop in front of the camera. Moreover, there needs to be integration with existing registration platforms through API calls, which is always a fraught process.

This kind of kiosk still requires a facilitator to guide guests through. Video seen here.

As can be seen, the setup of devices (i.e., computer, camera and printer) requires the guest to stand in front of the camera, so that the helper can facilitate badge-printing.

Event company Ticketek, which is headquartered in Sydney, and has a large presence in Australia and neighboring New Zealand. It was the first company to introduce online ticketing to Australia. Ticketek has now formed a joint venture with Chinese company YongLe to launch YunTek, an online ticketing platform and entertainment platform that aims to develop facial recognition for checking guests into entertainment events, slated to be launched within the next 5 years.

Event company Live Nation, which recently merged with Ticket Master, is partnering with tech startup Blink Identity to explore facial recognition as applied to event management.

Blink Identity is a promising Austin-based company that is offering an “identify-in-motion” product (or “walking-speed biometric solution”). It’s mission is to “bringing fast and secure face recognition technology to live event venues, healthcare and commercial spaces.” The solution’s transaction time is less than 4 seconds. Much of that time is for a guest to walk through the system.

Canadian company MexiaOne is a startup affiliated with Mexia Interactive. Mexia Interactive is a provider of passenger analytics for the air transport industry, which was founded in 2011 and based in Winnipeg, Canada. Mexia One’s M1 Vision has already had a success case at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona for a few days starting on Feb 26, 2018. As can be seen in the video, it is fast and can be managed easily.

However, Mexia Interactive was acquired by SITA, a leading specialist in air transport communications and IT solutions on 6 November 2018. At this time it is not clear whether MexiaOne will continue to provide the service after SITA’s acquisition.

The Juven factor

Why is Juven’s facial recognition solution the best one in the event management market? Answer: it’s the only end-to-end solution on Earth right now.

Juven Check-in Kiosk

We’ll just focus on our AI-vision check-in process for now.

1.High performance

Our facial recognition is industry-leading algorithm for 99.99% accuracy. It has lightning fast response at 30 milliseconds. Moreover, through use of edge computing, it can store and process up to 20,000 images.

The system is capable of detecting multiple people at the same time who are on the move! There is no need at all to stop and look straight at the camera as the capturing angle is within 30 degree. And it is not affected by eye wear and make-up. A guest can be checked in just by walking into the venue.

2. Easy to set up

Our current prototype is just plug-and-play. As soon as you turn it on, you will be guided through the intuitive application, and be able to experience Event Management 3.0

3. Value-added and cost-saving

The market typically charges USD 2–3 per head. We aim to provide more value (e.g. through event sponsors, dynamic content) in addition to event management, but without topping this price range.

4. Great user experience on customer’s end

Our AI-Vision check-in system is integrated with our complete engagement platform. End-users and guests to events receive a personal profile to update their photos for check-in, and have access to all of Juven’s features. Since there is no need to stop in front of the camera, and the guest can check in just by walking by, the whole experience feels very smooth to guests.

5. Respect for and protection of privacy

Users can opt out from facial recognition and still use the QR code from ticket purchase or their names for manual check-in.

That integration with Juven’s complete engagement platform is what brings this system to the next level, as it is just a part of the entire suite of systems for engaging your community that is available on Juven.

Juven is very excited to be working with AI-vision technology to empower event organizers in managing their events. Our prototype is already undergoing testing. We anticipate deployment in Q1 of 2019.

Juven builds integrated organization software that empowers charities, companies, associations and clubs of all sorts to build, engage and grow community. We believe that organizations should have access to beautiful, intuitive and reliable tools to create greater impact.
